You may remember a few months ago I wrote a blog post called Summer Break, I Have A Plan where I came up with a list of adventures I wanted to take the kids on, as well as some awesome summer ideas I stole from another mommy blogger.
So far I have done #1: take a tour of the dump. The dump tour was a huge success for Preston and a disgusting situation for everyone else. Ava and I did #10, and we volunteered with Hands4Hope at several homeless locations in Placerville. This was a great experience for Ava to see that there are lots of people who do not have enough food to eat, and it is up to all of us as human beings and members of a community to help those less fortunate than us. Ava gave her friendship bracelet away to a little homeless girl, which made my heart happy.
On this past Sunday we did #7 on my list, which was go on a hike. We went as a family with my brother-in-law and niece and nephew, as well as my parents. We drove an half an hour up to Ice House and then a 1/2 an hour on the Ice House road navigating dirt and rocks and crevasses until we landed in the middle of nowhere. Bassi Falls is a great hike for kids because it is so manageable. It is only a 1/2 mile hike in to the waterfall. It was an absolutely great spot for the kids to explore all the little swimming holes, put their heads under a waterfall and jump from one granite rock to the next. Bassi Falls was not short on adventure and excitement. We even brought the mangy mutt Sage, whom I had to carry in my arms down the rocks to our spot since she wasn’t brave enough to do it on her own.
What a great place to go if you have smaller children and want a hike that is manageable. The last thing I wanted is to be carrying triplets out of Bassi Falls, although I did end up carrying my dog a bit.
Chris took some great photos. Check them out.
Until next time, the mothership is signing off.
